1) MBA Application Panel Discussion And Networking Workshop

Host: NanKai Alumni Association-SFBA 
Cosponsor: CNetwork Organization, SCEA

Are you considering returning to school to obtain an
MBA? Are you in the process of applying to MBA
programs? How do you differentiate yourself from
other candidates with similar background in this
highly competitive environment? Who shall you ask for
recommendation letters? To find out the answers to
these questions, come to hear from our panelists who
are graduates of the most prestigious MBA programs. 
Our panelists cover a wide range of industries
including IT, biotech, banking and venture capital. 
One of them has been interviewing many MBA applicants
in both China and USA. They will share with you their
personal success stories and how the MBA degree has
helped them to achieve their success. In addition,
you will have the opportunity to network with other
highly motivated applicants to share application tips
and help each other to critique assays. The main
themes of the event:

1. Personal advice on how to get into the top business schools. 
Strategies on personal presentation from ex-MBA
students with backgrounds in IT, biotech, banking, consulting, etc.

2. Network with other applicants and exchange ideas onessay writing 
and application strategy.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Short bios for panelists:

Julius Chen, M.B.A. 

Julius Chen worked in networking, management
consulting, marketing and government work fields for
seven years. He is currently OEM/ODM program manager
for Cisco Systems, working on new product introduction
projects, supply chain initiatives, supplier base
evaluation, and outsourcing negotiations. Prior to
Cisco, he was co-founder and CEO of the b2b commodity
chemical exchange Chemease based in Shanghai, China.
Before business school, Mr. Chen also worked for
Booz.Allen & Hamilton, Norvartis and China National
Students’ Association.

Vicky Chen, M.B.A. 
Vicky Yun Chen graduated from University of Chicago,
Graduate School of Business. She has extensive knowledge 
and experiences in healthcare industries, particularly in 
pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Previously, she has 
worked in marketing department with Bristol-Myers and 
Squibb Company, where she performed project assessment, 
participated in formulating business plan for managed 
care marketing as well as planning and execution of 
drug promotional program. Prior to that, she also 
worked at Axys Pharmaceutical Inc. (now a division of
Celera) in South San Francisco and Schering Plough Corporation in New
Jersey. Apart from an MBA, Vicky also gained her MS in
biophysics and biochemistry from University of Pennsylvania.

Jonathan Wang, Ph.D., M.B.A. 
Dr. Wang is a Vice President at WI Harper Group, a
global venture capital firm with $ 220 million under
management. Based in its San Francisco headquarters,
he oversees the firm’s life sciences investment
worldwide. Dr. Wang has over fourteen years of
experience in the life sciences field in various
functions, including venture capital, finance,
entrepreneurship and research. Prior to WI Harper, Dr. 
Wang worked for Walden International, a multi-national 
venture capital firm with $2 billion in funds. There, 
he managed life sciences investment as well as supervised and
monitored life sciences portfolio companies. Before
joining Walden, Dr. Wang consulted to Delphi Ventures,
a life sciences venture capital firm with $450 million
under management. He has served as Summer Associate at
Booz-Allen & Hamilton, consulting to one of the
largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. He has
also taken leadership positions at Eureka!
Pharmaceuticals and enFashion, Inc. 

Dr. Wang holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and
a Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology from Columbia
University. He obtained his Ph.D. training under the
mentorship of his Ph.D. supervisor, Dr. Eric Kandal, a
Nobel Prize Laureate. 

MingHua Lu, M.B.A. 
Minghua Lu is the CEO and co-founder of eChinaChem.
The company was 
founded in Silicon Valley in 2000 and currently
employs over 20 people in the Palo Alto and Shanghai
offices. eChinaChem recently completed a round of
institution investment led by Eastman Chemical
Venture. eChinaChem is a consulting and procurement
solution company focuses on helping foreign company to
strategically procure and market in China's chemical
and pharmaceutical industry. It also operates the
premium China international chemical trade B2B
transaction marketplace (www.eChinaChem.com), with a
proprietary database of over 20, 000 China chemical
suppliers and their products sell offers, and
publishes the annual English edition of "China
Chemical Buyers' Guide".

Before co-founding eChinaChem, Minghua was the
Business Manager at Amazon.com's Silicon Valley 
subsidiary, where he was responsible for 
critical web metrics in customer acquisition,
retention, churn and monetization. 

Before joining Amazon, he was a management consultant
at Booz-Allen & Hamilton. He had worked in the Energy and Chemical
Practice in the firm's San Francisco office, and the Asia Pacific
Strategy Group in the Hong Kong and Shanghai office.
At Booz-Allen, Minghua advised many of the world's top
oil and chemical companies on strategic issues such as
global business portfolio optimization, total supply
chain integration, sales and distribution channel
restructuring, mergers & acquisition, organization and
human resources system redesign, operation process
improvements, and corporate governance.

Prior to Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Minghua held
managerial positions in 
global chemical procurement, marketing and sales,
central operation, and product development functions
at top petrochemical and biotechnology companies
including ExxonMobil Corporation, Genzyme Corporation,
BPAmoco Corporation, and China Petrochemical
Corporation (SINOPEC). 

Minghua has an MBA degree from Kellogg School of
Management at Northwestern University, an MS degree in
Chemical Engineering from Yale University, and a BS
degree in Chemical Engineering from Zhejiang
University
