Benjamin Xu, Partner, Harbinger USA

Advisor of the Board

Mr. Xu joined Harbinger Venture as Partner, after starting his VC career at Battery Ventures in Boston, and Draper Advisers in Redwood City. Prior to his venture career, Mr. Xu was Corporate Director of Strategic Planning at Exodus/Cable & Wireless. From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Xu held various senior engineering and marketing positions at Intel Corp working on 3 generations of Intel microprocessors, from i486 to Pentium II. From 1986 to 1990, Mr. Xu worked as a physicist at national research labs and universities, making two discoveries and one "first-demo" in semiconductor, superconductor, and applied optics. Mr. Xu was an early private investor into Avanex (AVNX) and Oplink (OPLK). He also led institutional investments in semiconductor (chip and EDA), fiber optics, telecom and software deals, including a service startup BDI (sold to MDCX), and an EDA startup 0-IN Design (sold to Mentor Graphics).

Mr. Xu received an MBA from Harvard Business School, to supplement his MSEE and BSEE degrees.

Bevan Wu, President of BW & Associates

With over 20 years of managing experience at IBM, Dr. Wu has managed projects from semiconductor product development, automated IC manufacturing systems and Expert System for manufacturing applications. Upon retirement from IBM Yorktown Research in 1992, he started his own engineering and management-consulting firm, BW & Associates. From 1993 to 1999 he has been a full time Senior Advisor of MIRL/ ITRI of Taiwan. Returning to California in 1999, Bevan was CEO of Lexel Laser, Inc., a laser company in Fremont, CA, and developed Deep Ultra Violet lasers for semiconductor equipment applications.

Presently he is a CNetwork advisor, and a Senior Advisor to ITRI-International, ERSO/ITRI and MIRL/ITRI. He is Member at Large of the Executive Committee of SEMI International MEMS Steering Group (IMSG) responsible for the New Asia-Pacific Region (China, Taiwan, HongKong, Korea, and Singapore excluding Japan), and he is also an adviser for SEMI International Standards Committee.

Dr. Wu received his B.S. degree from the National Taiwan University, a M.S. degree from the Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. degree from Stanford University. All these degrees were in Electrical Engineering.

Jim Li, Partner, McDermott Will & Emery LLP

Advisor of the Board

J. James Li, Ph.D. is a partner with the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Silicon Valley office. As a member of the Intellectual Property Department, Jim’s experience includes litigation on patent infringement, life sciences and biotechnology, copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation and breach of contract. His cases deal with a broad range of technologies, including monoclonal antibodies, confocal microscopes, DNA polymerase chain reaction, gene therapy vectors, angioplasty devices, kidney dialysis machines, image-guided surgery, hearing evaluation devices, digital video interfaces, graphics systems and software, modems, cache memories, power management systems and networking technologies. Jim is listed on the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals.
